We’ll look at some of Hyatt’s requirements for award stays and the kind of value we can expect from Hyatt points. In essence, we’ll see the sweet spot for using Hyatt points in India.
In contrast to Marriott, Hilton, or IHG, which lack a published chart and have dynamic point requirements, Hyatt is following category-based published award charts This makes Hyatt hotels more advantageous for our travel though its footprint is way lower than the other hotel chains. Here is the award chart for Hyatt redemptions:
I value each Hyatt Point at Rs 1.5, which is a conservative estimate in and of itself.
Methodology
As of the date I was doing my research for this post, I took the earliest off-peak redemption for each hotel. The revenue rate has been calculated using the nightly rate for two adults, even though choosing three adults would also result in the same number of points needed.

These are among the best value for any Hyatt Points. Note that I have taken random date however you could find certain dates giving more value. I guess the off peak dates are pre-decided, so have seen off peak rates at Park Hyatt when there was Formula One event happening Abu Dhabi!
World of Hyatt Sweet spot Redemptions in India
The Hyatt Regency Dehradun, Hyatt Regency Jaipur Mansarovar, Hyatt Centric MG Road Bangalore, Hyatt Centric Candolim Goa, and Hyatt Regency Dharamshala Resort consistently offer the best award redemption opportunities. Whether it is an off-peak or standard redemption, I have noticed that we always get a good redemption.
Category One Hotels
A word about category one hotel redemptions of Hyatt. I’ve noticed that we typically receive excellent value per point and nearly always receive good value when redeeming for off-peak rates. The good news is that we can use the Points Calendar to search and specifically choose these rates.

The last five values are unique hotel codes that can be found by performing a quick Google search. “Cheph” in the example above refers to Park Hyatt Chennai.
Should You Buy Hyatt Points At 30% Bonus
Hyatt sells points at 30% bonus (or still better at 30% discount sometimes) frequently, so the cost of a point is Rs 1.47 (Rs 1.34 if it is at 30% discount). We could buy Hyatt points with Citi Prestige (2X points on forex spends). Therefore, even after the hefty 4.13 percent forex surcharge, the cost per point drops by Rs 1.4 (or Rs 1.28 if it is at a 30% discount) based on my valuation of Citi Points.
As we can see from the above chart, we could make a good redemption easily. Even at standard redemption, we could still come out ahead. On the other side, we can have some fantastic redemption like the below stay I have booked:
Value per Hyatt point is Rs 10.9 (13.8 cents)!
We could still obtain a value of Rs 3.1 even at standard rates.
If the Hyatt Points are sold for a 30% discount and could be combined with other card-based promotions, I might even buy them speculatively.
Bottomline
In India, the GST rate for hotels is 12 percent for rates up to Rs. 7500 and 18 percent for rates over Rs. 7501. However, for award stays, the Loyalty Program pays it and thus tend to be a good value generally.
